What is Software Quality Assurance?
Software QA involves the entire software development PROCESS - monitoring and improving the process, making sure that any agreed-upon standards and procedures are followed, and ensuring that problems are found and dealt with. It is oriented to 'prevention'.
The software quality assurance (SQA) process is a process for providing adequate assurance that the software products and processes in the project life cycle conform to their specified requirements and adhere to their established plans. To be unbiased, quality assurance needs to have organizational freedom and authority from persons directly responsible for developing the software product or executing the process within the project. Quality assurance may be internal or external, depending upon whether evidence of product or process quality is demonstrated to the management of the supplier or the acquirer. Quality assurance may make use of the results of other supporting processes, such as verification, validation, joint reviews, audits, and problem resolution.
The SQA process consists of the following activities
Process implementation:
A quality assurance process to the project is made. This process is coordinated with the related verification and validation, joint review, and audit process. A plan for conducting the quality assurance process activities is developed, documented, implemented, and maintained for the life of the contract.
Product assurance:
Will assure that all plans required by the contract are documented, and that they are executed. In preparation for the delivery of software products, assure that contractual requirements are fully satisfied and that requirements are acceptable to the acquirer.
Process assurance:
Assurance that those lifecycle processes employed for the project comply with the the contract. The prime contract shall be passed down to the subcontractor. The acquirer and other parties are provided the required support and cooperation in accordance with the contract, negotiations, and plans. Software product and process measurements are in accordance with established standards and procedures.
